The other windows work with their own switch at each of the windows. The switch did control both front windows but not anymore. Also the switch would do the 1" down function
If that doesn't work then there's a chance the sensor that helps it automatically go up and down may have broken and you need a new one. And if it's not that, then there might be some fault in the circuit switch that allows it to happen. Have you disconnected the battery or have the drivers side door apart at all?

Sounds like one of two things are happening. Also does your Mazda have "auto" or "rain sensing" wipers? 1.) Your home or "park" position may be incorrect making the wipers think they are at their starting point 3/4 down, like you state.
